How It All Started
Imagine a school where the seasons aren't left behind for fluorescent lights and wood chip playgrounds, but are woven into the pace of the days.
That was the vision that led the original founding families to roll up their sleeves and dig in to build a new type of education model. We created Farm School (our pillar program) to imagine school in a different way.
We believe that sustainable change
in education will come from the ground up.
We set out to build something that would bring learning to life for our children, so that they could run wild in rows of berries, feed a baby piglet and feel connected to its survival, collect eggs and bring them home for their families, tuck away under a tree with a good book, plant a seed and watch it grow over time with awe.
What began as a parent-led co-op quickly evolved into a nonprofit 501c3 with a robust team, a strong mission, and several different educational programs. We've spent the first six years of Pasture Raised Kids building the plane as we fly it: creating our team, developing curriculum, forming new partnerships, fundraising, and always adapting and evolving along the way.
With great mentors and a lot of lessons learned, Pasture Raised Kids is now proud to be a part of a vibrant ecosystem of unconventional education entrepreneurs across the nation, building a sustainable model for innovative education in rural communities.
